Clear boundaries protect the relationship, the purpose of the work and everyone involved.
Clear roles
Coaching, mentoring, counselling and consultancy are distinct forms of work. Their purpose and boundaries will be explained so nobody is misled about the service offered.
Communication
Agreed contact methods and reasonable expectations will be discussed before ongoing work begins. Website and email contact are not monitored as crisis services.
Autonomy and challenge
Jeff’s role is not to control decisions, create dependency or tell someone who they should become. Appropriate challenge may be offered honestly and respectfully, while responsibility for personal choices remains with the individual.
Counselling boundaries
Counselling is provided only through appropriate trainee placement arrangements, with clinical supervision, professional boundaries and the placement’s referral processes.
