Confidentiality
The nature and limits of confidentiality will be explained before support begins. Information is treated with care and is not shared casually.
Limits to confidentiality
Information may need to be shared to protect a child, young person or adult from serious harm, respond to an immediate safety concern or meet a legal duty. Where possible and appropriate, this will be discussed with the person involved first.
Young people
Consent, parental or carer involvement, confidentiality and safeguarding responsibilities are agreed clearly at the outset and adapted to the young person’s age and circumstances.
Counselling placements
Counselling through an approved trainee placement also follows that placement’s safeguarding, confidentiality, referral and clinical supervision arrangements.
